vanishing act

What lovely times these are, Roghan is getting more and more mobile every day and I feel so lucky to have the time with him to see him grow. His sense of achievement is so visible on his face and his delight at finding new things to explore.

at our place

This week has been big smiles, dramatic skies, visiting a mine, watching grace the foal growing up, horse and pony watching, dogge loving, evening barbeques, standing up, and naps on the beach.

(Dogge is the old english word for dog and is pronounced dog-a, I like it.)

campfires

Summer and campfires go together like....  things that go together really well. I'm not feeling especially poetic today so that will have to do.

Not many things beat cooking on a campfire in the woods.

Except maybe doing it with friends.

one small change

This is a very rare, no photo post for me.
I recently found an old post from another blog titled one small change. The idea was to change one little thing every month for the better. It doesn't matter how big or small the change is, so long as it is for the good of your family or others.

I decided to give this a go, as my blog title says - one step at a time - it is the way things get done.
Chris often likes to quote the following -
"You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great"
I'm not sure who said this originally but chris likes to say it a lot around here whenever I'm worried about not being ready or starting something new.

It's so true, my one small change may not mean much now but as the small changes add up it could become something great.

Our one small change for July has been to keep our showers under 4 minutes, so far it has been fine. I'm sure it will be harder in winter when we crave the warm water but  hopefully if we get into the habit now it will be easier. This change should save water (good for the environment), and save on our water bills (good for us).

If you'd like to join in, please leave a comment.

walking practice

Roghan is so ready to walk, he is pulling himself up on every available surface and grabbing anyone who passes by him to take them for a walk.

His perserverance without complaint is a lesson to remember.

hooping in the sunshine

Faith loves to hula hoop. It is such fun and uses up all that lovely bubbly energy that young children have. Some friends that Faith rides (horses) with wanted to learn after they saw her do it so after their rides this week we have been having some hula fun. As he weather has been pretty cool so far this year we have mostly been doing it to a backdrop of clouds or rain. Last time though the sun came out and it was so beautiful that we stayed out much longer. It was definately way past bedtime when we got in!

photo's by Faith

When I downloaded the last weeks photos off my camera I found quite a large selection put on there by Faith, I thought you all might enjoy seeing some.

The last one is Faith's toy rabbit on a grand journey across the table! I love how Faith's photos are mostly looking up at things, it reminds me how it was to be smaller and to try to see things from her perspective a bit more.

chasing shadows

This was such a sweet moment. Faith was making shadows in the afternoon sunlight that comes in through our lounge window and Roghan was trying to catch them.

It strikes me again and again that to Roghan everything is as equally fascinating as everything else. A specially made baby toy is just as interesting as an old toilet roll tube, a colourful picture holds his attention the same as a crawling ant. Everything is worthy of attention and exploration. We don't need monstrous plastic noisy flashing things made in a factory by an underpaid worker... we have sunshine and shadows. x

weaving

We quite often do simple weaving on cardboard which is fun but quite slow so we were excited this week when this new weaving loom arrived in the post.

It has the simple piece going across which you tilt to lift half the threads up so you can put your yarn through the gap, (I'm sure there is some really helpful weaving terminology I could use here, I'll look into it). Anyway, it makes the process much smoother and quicker and we are really enjoying experimenting with it.

While we are weaving Roghan is doing some standing up practice. Obviously the book under one foot helps...

at our place

This week has been inquisitive looks, cuddling teddy babies, thinking wonderful thoughts, seeing the sun (hip hip ....), standing up (and smearing food all over ourselves), enjoying soft rugs.

the big kids

Faith was having fun scootering in the lane at the back of our house, and then the "big kids" joined in! Just as it should be really, never stop having fun x

party!

Faith turned 7 this week so we had a little party, lots and lots of balloons were involved. The world according to Faith would be a sea of balloons.

 err...

Thanks to friends and family who sent their love to Faith this week, we could feel it.
